Creativity – Quotes, Thoughts, Pictures

Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes and having fun. Mary Lou Cook

Making the simple complicated is commonplace; making the complicated simple, awesomely simple, that’s creativity. Charles Mingus

Necessity is the mother of invention, it is true, but its father is creativity, and knowledge is the midwife. Jonathan Schattke

Creativity is a natural extension of our enthusiasm. Earl Nightingale

I continue to believe that creativity, whenever it raises its beautiful head, is something teachers should applaud and encourage. Recently, in class, one of my grade six boys began a paragraph (written for a kindergarten audience about how to tie shoelaces) with several sentences that rhymed: “Do you like bunnies? I do too. They’ll show you how to tie your shoes.” He went on to explain how Mr. Bunny and Mrs. Bunny ran around the tree, ducked under, etc. and showed a step by step method to tie laces. We had discussed the bunny idea in class. The creative part was his rhyme.

In a subsequent writing assignment, a girl from the same class attempted a rhyming opening to her paragraph. I was thrilled. I had applauded the previous effort and I did the same with this one. The idea of having some fun makes writing a joy.
