Teacher Reading – Bricks and Bridges: Bridging the Gap to At-Risk Youth

I would highly recommend this book for any middle years teacher because at-risk students are everywhere. The ideas and activities are classroom-ready because they were developed in classrooms.

Dr. Tony Limoges worked with a student group called “BRICKS,” a group of at-risk youth in the Middletown Unified School District in California. Using the students as collaborators, Tony and Monte Selby prepared eleven chapters with eleven songs (CD is included) dealing with topics like: “Value Cutivation –  Who Are You?”, “Emotions – The Intimidation and Confusion,””Communication,” “Fantasy vs. Reality.”

A song and lyrics are matched to each chapter and, within each chapter, explanations and exercises are clearly explained. Blackline masters are included for ready use.
